The Nobel Experiment was one of the nicknames for Prohibition. Well, to be clear, it was probably the ONLY polite nickname. At Flaviar, we simply refer to it at The Dark Times.
Bridget Firtle got her MBA in 2007, and then worked at a hedge fund in New York City. But one morning this Brooklyn native woke up and decided to do something constructive with her life. She founded a micro-distillery back in her home town borough and named it The Noble Experiment.
The doors are wide open for lovely Bridget and her little shop of distilled pleasures. So far she is only producing one productOwneys Original New York City Rum. But Uncle Flaviar thinks this gal is an experiment in spirit entrepreneurship worth investing in. Go get em Bridget!
Owney Madden was a bit of a gangster in his day. No, not like these pseudo-street-punks who wear their street cred on their shirts like a Nike logo Owney was a first generation Hells Kitchen Street Thug banger with a tude. After serving hard time for murder, he emerged from the pen into the world of Prohibition. A true Gangsta Paradise of thirsty New Yorkers being denied lifes simple pleasures by the busy-body nannie-state man!
Naturally, Owney became a bootlegger and Rum-runner. Owneys Original New York City Rum is named after this colorful denizen of the Big Apple. It is distilled from sweet molasseswhich is blackstrap that has a bit more sugar left in the syrup and makes this white Rum smooth and sweet from the first sip. And this is pure stuff toonothin but molasses, yeast, and that famous New York City water. Fo gedda bout it!
